medium_calendar-icon1.pngDates and Deadlines
Applications for admission should be submitted between March 5 and June 30. Both the CAAPID and the UIC online application deadline is June 30.  A rolling admissions process is used with preference given to earlier applications.

In order to be considered for the DMD-AS program, applicants must:

Have a degree in dentistry from an institution outside the US

The program accepts applications from individuals who have earned dental degrees from institutions outside the US.

Pass the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE)

Effective for the entering class of 2020 (beginning March 2019), the College will require that all applicants pass National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) part I and II to be considered for admission.

Get more information about the National Board Dental Examination (NBDE).

Please note that the American Dental Association (ADA) will be implementing the Integrated National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) beginning on August 1, 2020.  The INBDE is intended to replace the National Board Dental Examination (INBDE) parts I and II. Please visit the ADA's website for additional details on the INBDE timeline.

After August 1, 2020, the UIC College of Dentistry will accept both the INBDE and the NBDE part I and part II as part of the application process.

ECE Course-by-Course Evaluation

A highly competitive comprehensive Grade Point Average (GPA) per the ECE course-by-course evaluation is required. UIC only accepts evaluations from the Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE). For more information please visit the ECE website.

Evidence of English Competency

Official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) are required for admissions.

All students must meet the minimum sub-scores to be eligible to apply:

  • Overall: 80 (internet-based: IBT)
  • Writing: 21
  • Speaking: 20
  • Listening: 17
  • Reading: 19

The average TOEFL IBT total score for the last entering class was 99.

It is required that TOEFL scores be reported electronically directly to UIC by ETS. The University of Illinois-Chicago institution code with ETS TOEFL is 1851. Please note that TOEFL scores over two years old are invalid. There is no exception to this rule. For more information on the TOEFL, please visit the ETS website.

The following exemptions will be made for:

  • Native English speakers from countries where English is the only official language, or
  • Non-native English speakers who have graduated from a U.S. high school or university or other country where the only official language of the country is English.

Note: Applicants from countries where the official language of the country is not English, but who attended a university where English was the language of instruction, are not exempt from submitting TOEFL scores.

Visa Status

The College of Dentistry is accepting applications from students who currently live in the U.S. and hold a valid visa status.

Safety & Technical Standards
