UIC Words Matter: A Dialogue on Diversity and Inclusion
Words Matter: A Dialogue on Diversity and Inclusion

Join the UIC Office of Student and Diversity Affairs and College of Dentistry community for a Dialogue on Diversity and Inclusion series titled: Words Matter. This will be a 2-day workshop series to raise awareness of the impact of language/statements.  What do statements really say? How do they impact individuals and groups on campus? While the intent may not be to do harm to another person, the impact adds up.

Words Matter! is designed and presented by the UIC Office of Diversity to raise awareness about the power of language as well as offer opportunities for UIC to engage with the concept of inclusive language and its connection to identities, inequality, and power.

The workshop series is open to all who are interested in learning more about the power of word choice and how to make their environment more inclusive. Workshop participants will engage in dialogue, watch short videos, review current literature, and have an opportunity to discuss strategies for change.

Monday, July 17th and Tuesday, July 18th

Please note, this is a two part series:
Monday, July 17th, 12:30pm to 1:30pm Lecture Hall North
Tuesday, July 18th, 12:30pm to 1:30pm Lecture Hall South

If you have questions or would like to propose a session, please contact the UIC Office of Student and Diversity Affairs.  Remember, think about what you say and how you say it because, WORDS MATTER.
