First Year Postgraduate Students

Dr. Nisreen Jaweesh


Dr. Nisreen Jaweesh comes from Syria , Aleppo and earned her DMD from the University of Aleepo 2001. Then she was in general dental practice for over 5 years in Syria  before moving to Chicago over a decade ago, then Dr. Jaweesh graduated from the UIC  College of Dentistry in 2017.  She practiced general dentistry again for one year in Chicago prior to beginning the program. 

Dr. Jaweesh is married with 2 children and in her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, drawing and jogging. 

Upon graduation, Dr. Jaweesh plans to enter private practice and also wants to be involved in university teaching field.


Dr. Daniel Oh

Dr. Daniel Oh grew up in California and studied Electrical Engineering for his undergraduate degree at University of California, Irvine. He worked as a semiconductor circuit designer for five years and concurrently received his Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at University of Southern California. While he enjoyed his work as an engineer, Dr. Oh decided to follow his passion to become a health professional. Dr. Oh received Doctor of Dental Surgery at University of California, Los Angeles in 2014. He is a recipient of U.S. Army Health Professional Scholarship which allowed him to serve as a captain and a general dentist at Fort Polk, LA.

In his free time, Dr. Oh enjoys playing racquetball, biking, and exploring Chicagoland with his wife and son.

Upon graduation, Dr. Oh plans to enter private practice and teach endodontics to dental community.


Dr. Ashley Orth


Dr. Ashley Orth has resided in Chicago since 2006. Ashley spent two years as a dental assistant then received her D.D.S. Degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2012. In addition, Dr. Orth completed a post-graduate general practice residency at the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for advanced training in general dentistry including endodontics, operating room dentistry, oral surgery, periodontics, pediatrics, emergency care, and patients with special needs. She has practiced general dentistry for the last 5 years prior to beginning her endodontic residency. Dr. Orth is a native of Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Neuroscience.

Ashley likes to be outside enjoying the weather whenever possible with her husband and two daughters.

She hopes to stay in the Chicago area and enter private practice upon graduation.


Dr. Yagnik Patel


Dr. Yagnik Patel grew up in West Bengal, India. He received his BDS degree from Bapuji Dental College and Hospital, Davangere in 2010. He moved to the United States in 2011. In 2014, he earned his Master of Public Health (Epidemiology and Biostatistics) from Temple University, Philadelphia. Dr. Patel later moved to Los Angeles, California and earned his DDS degree from the University of Southern California in 2016. During dental school, he was very actively involved in organized dentistry and student advocacy, serving as CDA (California Dental Association) Class Representative 2016. He was also awarded the “THE THOR AWARD” for showing outstanding dedication and service in providing dental care to underserved and/or disadvantaged children during dental school.

He practiced as an Associate in a small town in West Texas, Sweetwater for 2 years after before joining the program. During his spare time, he enjoys sports and loves to cook for his lovely wife.

Upon graduation, Dr. Patel wishes to become board-certified by the American Board of Endodontics and enter private practice. After few years of practice, he wants join academia full-time and be actively involved in organized Dentistry.


Dr. Sebastian Przybylo


Dr. Sebastian Przybylo earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) followed by a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree at the UIC College of Dentistry in 2018. Sebastian was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Sigma Chapter National Dental Honors Society his fourth year of dental school. In addition, during dental school he was awarded the American Association of Endodontists Student Achievement Award, the Dr. William J. Starek Endodontics Award, the ISDS Best Translational and Clinical Science Research Award and the Dr. Richard J. Schnell Memorial Scholarship. After graduation, Dr. Przybylo began the Endodontics Residency Program at UIC.

Sebastian lives in Chicago with his fiancé and their dog Bijou. He enjoys spending time with his family and exploring the local food scene.

Upon completion of residency, Sebastian plans on becoming a Board Certified Endodontist and entering private practice in the Chicago-land area.

Second Year Postgraduate Students

Dr. Doris Basali


Doris Basali is from Pepper Pike, Ohio and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology of Global Health from Georgetown University in 2012. Dr. Basali then moved to New York City and received her dental degree from NYU College of Dentistry in 2016. While at NYU, Dr. Basali completed the Honors in Endodontics program and was involved in endodontic research, student government, and several volunteer programs.  After dental school, she completed a one year General Practice Residency program at The Ohio State University.

In her free time, Dr. Basali enjoys spending time with her family and friends, playing tennis, and cheering on her beloved Cleveland sports teams.

Upon graduation, Dr. Basali plans enter private practice, teach part-time, and become Board Certified by the American Board of Endodontics. 


Dr. Vikash S. Huliyar


Dr. Vikash Huliyar is originally from the suburbs of Chicago. He spent a number of years in Bangalore, India where he completed his Bachelors in Dental Surgery from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences. He then moved back to Chicago and received a DDS from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Huliyar practiced general dentistry in Phoenix, AZ prior to returning to Chicago. Four years of practice and dedication to patient care helped him realize that his true passion lies in Endodontics. Dr. Huliyar is committed to staying informed with the latest advancements in the profession and providing his patients with the best possible care.

Dr. Huliyar enjoys traveling with his wife and cheering on the Chicago sports teams.

Upon graduation, he plans to enter private practice and become a Board-Certified Endodontist.  


Dr. Edward H. Song


Dr. Edward Song grew up in Massachusetts and attended Duke University for his undergraduate education, receiving a B.S. in Political Science.  For his dental education, he graduated from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 2011.  After dental school, he completed a one-year Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency (AEGD) and worked for the United States Navy as a dental officer until 2017 with tours in Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton and Naval Station Great Lakes.  While in the Navy, he developed a passion for endodontics and desire to pursue further education in order to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to best serve his patients.

During his free time, Dr. Song enjoys cheering for his Boston sports teams and spending time with his wife and baby boy.

Upon graduation, Dr. Song plans to become board-certified by the American Board of Endodontics and enter private practice in the Chicago area.


Dr.  Gail Tischke


Dr. Gail Tischke resides in Hinsdale, Illinois and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University in 1988. Dr. Tischke served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator both on Active Duty and in the Reserves. She then served in the Illinois National Guard as a student recruiter while attending the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry where she earned her DDS degree in 2012. While attending dental school she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry award from the Academy of Operative Dentistry. Dr Tischke retired from the military and was in private practice for 5 years prior to beginning her residency.

She is married with four children, and, in her spare time, she enjoys attending her children’s sporting events, running, and playing ice hockey.

Upon graduation, Dr. Tischke plans to enter private practice, become board certified by the ABE, and teach part time.


Dr. Helen X. Yang


Dr. Helen Yang hails from Michigan. She studied history of science and health policy at Harvard College and graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 2016. During dental school, she was very active in organized dentistry and student advocacy, serving as ASDA District 1 Trustee and co-founding her school's ADEA chapter. Prior to residency, she worked in private practice in Singapore, where she used the opportunity to improve her Mandarin and explore the incredibly beautiful countries of Southeast Asia.

In her spare time she enjoys folding origami while watching police TV shows.

Upon graduation, Dr. Yang plans to become board certified, enter private practice for some years before pursuing dental education full-time.

The UIC College of Dentistry Endodontics clinic in Chicago provides world-class root canal therapy from a team of expert faculty and post graduate dentists who are completing specialty training. Patients may be referred to the Postgraduate Endodontics clinic after initial screening, as part of their treatment in the College, or on recommendation of a private dentist. Patients without a private dentist referral must undergo screening in the admitting clinic before assignment to the endodontic clinic.
